The problems marrying Asian
women
You've got your beautiful Filipino or Chinese bride but will
it all be perfect from here on in?
You've joined your online Asian dating service, you've searched the databases,
chatted to as many girls as you could and you've finally settled on the lady
of your dreams and married her. What happens now? Will you be happy together?
Obviously there will be language and cultural problems. You'll need to sort
out everything from what food you eat to what music you like listening to and
how you structure your day. All that goes without saying and, if you are not
prepared to go through all these minor irritations, then you should not
consider an Asian bride in the first place.
But, you may not be aware that there can be other, more longer-lasting and
difficult to eradicate or satisfy problems with marrying Asian women. For
example:
Asian women are often not valued highly in their own countries (that's why
they are looking to marry outside of their culture in the first place). As a
direct result, they are often poorly-educated and will struggle in our system
- both with finding work and with integrating with other women.
The expectation for Asian women is that they will look after their parents
in their dotage (since there is no Social Security system) and, although your
Asian wife is extremely happy living with you, she will also have in her mind
that she is failing in her duty to care for her family's elders who may well
be enduring a life that is well below the breadline. She may well want to
travel back home to deal with this or, at the very least, pester you to send
money and gifts to her parents.
This 'family first' attitude tends to be very deep-rooted in Asian women and,
regardless of whether you support your wife's family or not, you can still
expect to play second fiddle to them in her mind. You may well find that
problem very difficult to deal with at times.
Your Asian wife loves your Western-style home and all its modern appliances
but she will still long to own a house in her home-country. She will probably
want a pied-a-terre there even if neither of you really intend to live there
for more than a few weeks a year when you go visiting her parents.
Asian women make wonderful brides so don't let this put you off. If this
