Dinner for two? What can you cook as a romantic meal?
If it's romance you're after, there's no time for a half-baked idea. You need a roasting hot idea to make a meal of. We dish up our menu of twelve mouth-watering suggestions
What could be a more romantic than a quiet meal for just the two of you? You've set the table out with a freshly-ironed tablecloth, polished the wine glasses until they sparkle and placed a small vase with a single red rose in it in the middle of the table. But what do you serve? What is does a romantic meal consist of? Well, here are the favourite romantic foods in no particular order.- Pizza - delivered to your door with some cold lager in the fridge to wash it down with. Very basic but effective nevertheless.
- Sushi - adventurous and not to everyone's taste. Given the health issues, it would be a good idea to get it from a proper Japanese Sushi restaurant.
- Steak, chips and peas - the way to a man's heart but possibly a bit heavy-going for a lady
- Chinese stir fry - quick to rustle up, tasty and varied. Very simple to cook but you do need to have the food peeled and sliced beforehand otherwise your date will get bored.
- Chicken Kiev with broccoli and new potatoes - nice but adventurous. Frozen Chicken Kiev is disgusting but that doesn't mean you can't have yours pre-prepared
- Poached salmon, asparagus tips and rice - definitely for the health conscious. If your partner watches their weight then this is the dish for you. If you have a rice cooker you can simmer the asparagus tips in the top compartment.
- Spaghetti Bolognese with Parmesan cheese and side salad - a favourite but it can be messy to eat. If you don't feel confident that you can laugh at each other's failed attempts at keeping clean then choose another dish
- Spicy barbecue ribs with potato salad - remember it will take over an hour to cook thoroughly and it will also mean eating with your hands. A real winner if you can pull it off.
- Fried chicken wings and legs, pasta salad and corn on the cob - not too heavy and it can be largely prepared.
- Clam chowder and steamed lobster with rice and sauté vegetables - healthy and
filling but make sure your date likes fishy food.
Rack of lamb, fresh vegetables and minted new potatoes - tasty, satisfying, not too stodgy but does take several hours to cook even if it is prepared in advance. - Oysters, pasta and salad - the archetypal food of love but do make sure that the oysters are fresh and cooked properly otherwise you could both get very ill.
Whatever you choose to cook for your romantic date, we hope that it goes down well. Cheers!
