Senior dating - Things to
watch out for when you are senior dating
If it's too good to be true then it is. There's no fool like
an old fool so here's how to be streetwise when you're online
dating and avoid falling for scams
While online dating is the perfect medium for senior dating, unfortunately it
is prone to predators who prey on those who aren't streetwise enough to be
aware of them and their ploys. While it is impossible to give any complete
list of do's and don'ts (new scams come up all the time, anyway), here is a
selection of some of the more popular for you to be aware of when senior
dating.
The thing to remember throughout the whole senior dating process is that
you are in charge of what you tell others, what they tell you is not
necessarily true and that if you are ever uncomfortable at any time, back out
immediately. Until you are ready to commit (and that won't be until you have
met and dated in person on numerous occasions), never get so attached to
anyone that you can't say 'goodbye' and mean it.
With that in mind, here are the dangers and how to deal with them:
Perverts and paedophiles
A photograph of you playing with your grandchildren may be one of your
favourites and the one you show to all of your friends but it does not belong
on the internet. All you will do is to attract the worst sort of men (and some
women). Also beware of anyone who takes an interest in the younger members of
your family. They are supposed to be dating you so don't let the conversation
drift away from that.
A passport to success
If you are dating someone from abroad watch out for anyone who seems too
keen to be married. Almost certainly they will only be interested in
exchanging their passport for one from your country. If you are uncertain,
suggest that you would not be wanting to rush into marriage and would want to
see them in their home and date for quite a while first. That will probably
put them off.
Falling into the age-gap trap
Don't kid yourself that you truly appeal to someone half your age so use
the age screening facility to keep out those from other age brackets. Senior
dating sites are plagued by handsome young men and beautiful women who are
keen to get to know mature people who have low expenditure, savings and equity
on their homes. You get the picture? If it seems too good, it probably is so
stick with your own age group - you'll be happier in the long-run.
A friend in need
You've been corresponding and chatting to someone who seems to be
sympathetic and desirable. Suddenly he or she announces that they have
suffered a personal tragedy (lost job, huge tax bill, house problems etc) and
... well ... they don't like to ask ... but ... could you possibly loan ...?
If you start you'll never stop until they've got all the cash out of you that
they can and then they'll disappear. Beat them to it and suddenly become
unavailable. Remember the old saying - a friend in need is to be avoided at
all costs.
Don't fall for the hard-sell
The online dating world sadly suffers from its share of 'professional'
ladies and pimps and the police seeking them out. Don't get caught up in it.
If someone sends you a 'hot' picture of themselves do three things - hit the
'delete' button, empty your 'Recycle Bin' and then block the sender. Whatever
you do, don't get into correspondence and don't retain the picture on your
hard-drive (even in the Recycle Bin) since under the ridiculous legal system
you can still get in trouble. If you feel public-spirited report the sender to
the online senior dating site webmaster.
Don't let my warnings put you off senior dating. The Internet is an ideal
medium for finding a new partner but, like any tool, it is good or bad
depending upon the actions of the person wielding it. A little caution and a
healthy scepticism will go a long way towards keeping you safe.
Good luck with your senior dating.
We hope we have answered the question of what things should I watch out for
when senior dating?
